Dangers of Illegal Link Building

Link building will build web popularity, Page Rank, and increase where you appear on the SERPs (search engines results pages). But not all links will benefit you. In fact, some of them can damage your SEO efforts.

Off Topic Websites

Link farms, link exchanges and off-topic websites that are thinking quantity vs. quality can actually damage your efforts. According to the Google webmaster guidelines, reciprocal linking can get you banned.

"get thousands of back links to your website for only $39.95 per month"

Translate this into SEO terms means, pay $39 a month and the company will ensure you will get banned. If your PR is dropped to 0, or if you are banned, then just toss the domain name and start over.

Another way to get banned is to submit to search engines every month. Submitting once every six months is safe.

Buying a high PR domain name can also be dangerous. The Black Hat SEO shysters know how to make money building links. They can sell PR7 links for a few hundred a month. But, they also know when their domain name is about to be banned.

Buying into a high PR domain name before researching it can spell disaster for your Internet Marketing campaign.

If you are banned, file a re-inclusion request and pray. Apologize for violating the terms of service. Eliminate the instances of abuse. Give it a few weeks - but don't hold your breath.

If you even 'think' that something is going wrong, and it isn't your fault, then contact the search engine and throw yourself on their mercy. This is far more successful than waiting until they ban you.

But, as my mother said, 'it's better to be safe than sorry.'
